So after rumours that the WMC was ending it looks like the loved gathering has been saved!

Ultra Music Festival has acquired Miami’s Winter Music Conference (WMC), and will expand its reach to include China, according to a press conference held in the Florida city.

News hit during a media event held on the Seafair Yacht, close to Bayfront Park, amid Miami Music Week, which is currently taking place and 2018’s WMC, which was only recently confirmed to run for three days.

Ultra also annouced an expansion into China, with the first Ultra Music Festival Beijing scheduled for 16th and 17th June 2018, and plans for Shanghai in September.

“WMC will allow veterans and newcomers alike to develop themselves and their organizations to become competitive players in the industry,” Ultra Music Festival’s Marketing and New Media Manager, Albert Berdellans, said. “We are very excited to contribute to the vision of Miami as a hub of entertainment, culture and business.”

WMC was established in 1985, and grew to become the premiere electronic music industry event in the world by the 1990s and early-2000s. Ultra Music Festival launched in 1999 as part of the week-long programme, but the two separated in 2011, with Ultra growing to its current size in the years since, by which time WMC’s dominance had dropped off thanks to increasing competition from the International Music Summit in Ibiza, Amsterdam’s ADE, and Miami Music Week, now the dominant US offering.
